Works by the artist comprised over the past decade will include encaustic painting, oil painting, sculpture and hand-knotted carpets inspired by these paintings.

Building 98 will present a selection of works on canvas, sculpture and hand-knotted carpets by Mia Muratori from October 8, 2015 to January 15 , 2016. MOVING IMAGE unites several bodies of work. Muratori’s paintings are rooted in the Abstract Expressionist style of painting. Her strong imagery is a reflection of neurological imagery and visual narrative. The artist’s structural and architectural use of paint gives shape to these often fleeting yet universal images.

Muratori uses a variety of materials and techniques.  “Whichever tool it takes to journey the chasm between the thoughts and images in my mind to the produced object.  Per my work with paint, oil and encaustic paints, timing and physicality help to coordinate the sometimes vulnerable, sometimes aggressive step from mind to object. Through some magical process, the inevitable distortion from the act of observation makes its way to the truth.”

Mia Muratori was born in Heidelberg, Germany.   She studied painting in New York City and ceramics in Italy, and received her MFA from the University of Delaware. Mia exhibits her work nationally and internationally including presentations in Xi’an, China at the Xi’an College for Art and Architecture and the Ceramics Institute in Faenza, Italy.   www.miamuratori.com
